Stanford Jazz Orchestra

The Stanford Jazz Orchestra, with Mark Applebaum, performs their Spring Concert this Wednesday, May 18 in Dinkelspiel Auditorium. John Worley spent last week recording with them at Skywalker Ranch and they will be performing that music at the concert. All he has to say about it is that "You will hear something totally different than what you expect from a Stanford Jazz Orchestra concert." I can't seem to find the show time.

Down beat is 7:30pm. Fred Berry is the conductor and you will hear tunes as inside as Warm Breeze from the Basie band to some of the wildest stuff I've ever played. Mark Appelbaum's writting is like grabbing the tail of a comet and sightseeing thru the galaxy. His piano playing is filled with nuances from Monk, Cecil Taylor, Keith Jarret and Oscar Peterson.
Plus, he invented a electronic instrument called an "Agitprop" that is pretty wild. ok...that's all I got to say. A concert totally unlike any I've ever seen from a Stanford Jazz Orchestra.
